Brand & audio identity for Mayflower Spotlights Podcast
Partnering with Mayflower, we developed the visual and sonic identity for their new podcast series, Spotlights, hosted by Zoe Hanson. From the logo and visual ID to the complete audio brand (created in collaboration with the talented Southampton-based musician and composer Simon Tilley), we built a package that reflects the excitement, ambition and breadth of a live-theatre experience.
On the design side, we crafted a distinctive logo mark that works seamlessly across digital platforms, social posts and on-screen video.
But the audio was absolutely central. The brief was simple but daunting: ” HI, we need an audio brand and you guys know all about that”. And so we do, having developed the wider Mayflower identity – and evolved it as the organisation expanded its outreach programmes, youth theatre and multi-venue offer – creating a single sonic identity was always going to be a challenge.
We dug deep into the DNA of the brand. Mayflower is both a producing and receiving theatre. It creates and hosts every kind of live performance imaginable. Crucially, its brand isn’t about “itself” – it’s about the strength, structure and support it provides for creativity to flourish. Designed to show confidence and adaptability, the brand doesn’t dominate; instead, it stands as a familiar, well-loved icon that enables other stories to take centre stage.
That’s quite an audio brief. We deliberately avoided pinning the sound to any one genre or musical style. Instead, we set out to capture the anticipation and expectation of an audience member: planning what to see, booking a ticket, then taking their seat as the lights go down. It’s not about the show itself. It’s about the brand’s core of Inspiring Experiences.
With a flexible audio packaging – intros, outros, stings and transitions – that work for every type of episode, whether it’s a behind-the-scenes conversation, an on-stage interview or a community story. The result is a coherent, polished brand experience that positions the Mayflower Spotlights Podcast as professional, engaging and deeply connected to the world of live performance.
The podcast is now live across major platforms (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube) and stands as a strategic extension of the Mayflower brand – giving audiences not just the show, but the story behind the show..
